The reasons for the use of Kinesiology Taping are:
- To help muscles, ligaments and tendons to prevent further injury
- To reduce the stress placed on particular structures
- To enhance the proprioceptive response of muscles
- To increase your confidence when returning back to every day life activities and training following your injury.
How does it do this?
It lifts the skin which in turn helps the tissues underneath glide better. This then reduces the pressure placed on your pain receptors hence reducing your pain. That way it can also assist in the healing process.
How long does it stay on for?
It stays on for an average of 3-4 days but it can stay on for a total of 7 days. The tape can get wet so allows for you to still shower.
Can I train straight after the tape is applied?
Yes you can but it is best to wait 30 minutes to an hour before you exercise to give the tape time to stick.
